Relatively unnoticed among the oaks and traffic of the Museum District, the Museum of Fine Arts Administration Building has a few aspects that make it noteworthy. The building was constructed without cutting down any of the venerable, gnarled trees that characterize the neighborhood. It also houses the Glassell Junior School of Art, with the MFA offices and the school sharing a common lobby and exhibition space. Since it is an administration building, it appropriately incorporates elements of its subordinate institutions. The structure's most notable attribute is one that not everyone will see. On the back of the building, where students for the Glassell Junior School are dropped off, is a metal block with sharp lines that pierce the rounded roof and subtle concrete walls. Quick Facts
