An often overlooked building in downtown Houston, the Americana building is a reminder of the optimism of the past. The Americana building was erected at a time when the city was going through the boom phase of another boom-bust cycle. It was a large building for its day in this region, and was hailed as a sign of the prosperity to come. A central shaft with a concrete facade and a regular pattern of square windows is flanked by two wings featuring glass curtain walls. It was new technology sprouting from old, and a symbol of the city itself. It has since been surpassed by taller, wider, flashier structures nearby but remains an important piece in the downtown architectural jigsaw.

There is one comment.

I actually LOVE this building. It is a PURE example of mid-century modern architecture.
