The new facility is billed as &#8220;one of the world&#8217;s largest rooftop playgrounds and gardens.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm intends to transform the city&#8217;s disused Post Office at 401 Franklin Street into a blended cultural venue. The new complex, known as POST, will include cultural venues, entertainment areas, creative workstations, eateries, and stores.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tour of post houston shows the city&#039;s newest venue looks nothing like what it once was\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tBRSAQRd-Hc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The renovation, developed for private real estate firm Lovett Commercial, attempts to retain as much of the property as possible. One historical fact: from 1936 to 2014, the facility was operated by the US government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to OMA partner Jason Long, the potential to transform a building of such sturdiness and enormous size is fantastic. Lovett&#8217;s idea to conserve this landmark from Houston&#8217;s history enabled the firm to design an integrated framework for the city&#8217;s cultural and economic future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-69\" src=\"https:\/\/www.houstonarchitecture.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ezgif.com-gif-maker-82-e1652033494753.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"801\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.houstonarchitecture.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ezgif.com-gif-maker-82-e1652033494753.jpg 1200w, https:\\www.houstonarchitecture.info\wp-content\uploads\2022\05\ezgif.com-gif-maker-82-e1652033494753-300x200.jpg 300w, ezgif.com-gif-maker-82-e1652033494753-1024x684.jpg1024w,ezgif.com-gif-maker-82-e1652033494753-768x513.jpg768w\"sizes=\"auto,(max-width:1200px)100vw, 1200px\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A prominent aspect is the renovation of the building&#8217;s rooftop into something like a garden and ecological organic urban garden. The five-acre area, dubbed &#8220;Skylawn,&#8221; will feature 360-degree vistas of the city&#8217;s downtown cityscape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rooftop space will have dining and event locations, as well as a stage for live performances. There will also be allotments for producing food, allowing the property&#8217;s restaurants to provide a rooftop-to-table approach. Hoerr Schaudt, a Chicago-based landscape architecture firm, will be in charge of the landscaping.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project&#8217;s diversified services are intended to strengthen the adjacent downtown area, according to OMA and Lovett Commercial.
